Observation #4: The Order throughout the Universe

It is I who made the earth and created mankind on it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts.Isaiah 45:12 NIV

An observer of the eight planets would have to at least consider that the clearly seen order within our Solar System is difficult to explain by natural processes. The entire Universe is subject to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics and trends toward disorder. A theoretical Big Bang would have originated in disorder, as is evident in an explosion of any magnitude, and would not have access to some unknown ability to reverse the plunge into further chaos.

The disorder in the universe always increases.
2nd Law of Thermodynamics op. cit.

The existence of clusters of galaxies and of galaxies themselves pose a very interesting question for astronomers and cosmologists. How did they form? Why are the stars not spread uniformly throughout the universe? Why galaxies are found in clusters has been one of the most hotly contested topics of theoretical cosmology in the past decade, with a definitive answer still not in sight.
Our Universe: An Armchair Guide, Michael Rowan-Robinson, Ph.D., Professor of Astrophysics, Imperial College London

Comment: Although Dr. Rowan-Robinson appears to support eons for the age of the Universe, his comments regarding the order that exists should be perplexing to those who believe in a naturalistic cause for the physical worlds.

Gravity is a primary force that holds the Universe together and is responsible for the order seen in our Solar System as planets maintain calculable orbits around the Sun and comets follow predictable paths at predictable times. The order is undeniable, and yet the source of gravity is unknown. The excerpt below is from a NASA website, answering the question "What is gravity?" Although directed toward a 14 year old and under group, the information is representative of basic science.

StarChild Question of the Month for February 2001

Question: What is gravity?

Answer: We don't really know. We can define what it is as a field of influence, because we know how it operates in the universe. And some scientists believe that it is made up of particles called gravitons which travel at the speed of light. However, if we are to be honest, we do not know what gravity "is" in any fundamental way - we only know how it behaves.

Here is what we do know...

Gravity is a force of attraction that exists between any two masses, any two bodies, any two particles. Gravity is not just attraction between objects and the earth. It is an attraction that exists between all objects, everywhere in the universe.

NASA StarChild: A Learning Center for Young Astronomers

The answer to the student's question above describes the effect of this universal influence and makes the honest admission that the source is unknown. And yet, everything is subject to the attraction of this detectable, but invisible, organizing force.

16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:16-17 NIV

Comment: Research seems to indicate that there is not enough gravity to create the order observed throughout the universe. The four fundamental forces of nature include gravitational, electromagnetic, strong nuclear force, and weak nuclear force. The strong force and "dark matter" have been suggested, by evolutionists, as possibilities that couple with the gravitational attraction to create the observed order by "natural" means. Regardless of the combination of forces referenced by those who believe in a Universe with eons of aging, however, any theory based on naturalism would have to overcome the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.

Uranus, Venus, & Comets - Oh, My! Astronomical problems for the evolutionary formation of the Solar System

A phenomenon within the Solar System that cannot be explained by naturalism is the axial retrograde rotation of Venus (in the opposite direction of the other planets). The planet Uranus also shows a uniqueness with it's pole pointed directly at the Sun. The current evolutionary model for the birth of the Solar System, known as the Nebular Hypothesis (below), seeks to explain how the Earth and its neighboring planets naturally organized over billions of years. The hypothesis falls far short, however, when objective science is applied and no satisfactory answer is offered for the rotational and polar anomalies of Venus and Uranus.

The following is from the astronomy website at Cornell University:

What direction do planets rotate? (Beginner)

Every planet in our solar system except for Venus and Uranus rotates counter-clockwise as seen from above the North Pole; that is to say from west to east. This is the same direction in which all planets orbit the sun. Uranus was likely hit by a very large planetoid very early in its history, causing it to rotate "on its side," 90 degrees away from its orbital motion. Venus rotates backwards compared to the other planets, also likely due to an early asteroid hit which disturbed the original rotation.

Cornell University, Department of Astronomy: Ask an Astronomer

Comment: With the exceptions of Venus and Uranus, the counter-clockwise rotation of the planets is the same direction as the Sun. A hypothesis that claims an understanding of the Solar System's origin but glosses over or manipulates the evidence that falsifies the idea is not holding to the tenets of objective science. Good science requires that a theory can be valid only if evidence has not been found to dispute it. Unfortunately for evolutionary science, Venus and Uranus present astronomical complications for the entire premise.

Can the flight of a frisbee disprove the Nebular Hypothesis

Critical Thought: A frisbee thrown from the right hand always rotates in a clockwise direction. The same frisbee thrown from the left hand in the same manner will always rotate in a counter-clockwise direction. Proponents of the Nebular Hypothesis have developed a number of reasons for retrograde motion, including an asteroid collision that reversed the rotation of Venus. To even consider that a collision of such magnitude would not destroy a celestial body but keep it intact in an orderly orbit around the Sun, and reverse the direction of its rotation, is a very unscientific attempt to create credibility for the hypothesis.

While the axial retrograde motion of Venus presents evidence that questions the Nebular Hypothesis, equally puzzling are the orbital retrograde directions of Neptune's largest moon, Triton, and Ananke, one of the many moons of Jupiter. While most moons in the Solar System orbit in a west to east direction, the same as the axial rotation of their parent planet, the east to west retrograde orbits of the two moons mentioned present another difficulty for creation by naturalism. The proponents of a 4.6 billion year old Solar System theorize that moons traveling in retrograde orbits were not present when the planet was formed, but were "captured" by the gravitational attraction in a subsequent event. This imaginary explanation of an unexplainable phenomenon is simply a "best guess" that attempts to avoid even the suggestion that a supernatural six day creation may have occurred.

He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. Isaiah 43:19 NIV

The following lists a few obvious examples of order and perfection that exist within the Solar System:

The Earth is the only planet in the Universe known to date that is perfectly positioned in its solar system and has an environment necessary to support life. The great and continuing effort expended along with substantial worldwide funding to locate other "earth-like" planets reveals only a universe that is hostile to life. Even, however, if such a planet were to exist, the actual creation of life remains problematic for evolution as stated in the following Principles 2 and 3.

He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.. Psalm 72:8 NKJV
