Beginning the Creation Journey

Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3 NIV

Can Genesis 1-11 impact the culture war?

In U.S., Belief in Creationist View of Humans at New Low Gallup Poll, May 22, 2017
The above mentioned poll by Gallup indicates that 38% of the of the respondents believed that God created man in his present form. The other possibilities presented were: Humans evolved with God guiding, also at 38%; and, Humans evolved, but God had no part in the process, 19%. The same poll conducted in 2012 held the creationist belief at 46%, highlighting a significant erosion of faith in just 5 years. Reflected in the poll numbers is the reality that the message and importance of a six day creation is being lost to a nation that was a pillar of evangelism and belief in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. The inescapable fact is that the trend toward the acceptance of evolutionary theory is a significant contributor to the loss of trust in God's word.

Hiding within the statistics is the belief by many in a "miraculous" creation by nature of the first life form in a "primordial soup" of the early Earth. The theory is that nature combined the raw chemicals to create the first cell (life) in what was supposedly a hostile environment. Unfortunately for Creationists, more depth is needed than the simplistic conviction that we have not evolved from monkeys to convince the emerging generations that the Bible can be trusted as the Word of God. The intent of is to demonstrate that the Laws of Science do not support am origin by naturalism and that any beginning must have a cause: the Law of Cause and Effect. The foundational truth that God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things remains at the center of the culture war.

A clearly written history of the origin of the world

The first two chapters of Genesis give the details for God's Creation of the material world, with the Earth and all of life being His unique work. These chapters also reveal His special relationship to man, being made in His image and higher than all else. It is awe inspiring that the LORD can say so much in so few words, and yet reveal volumes about Himself, His character, and His Creation. The initial 56 verses of Genesis are perhaps the most brief and concise historic account of any recorded major event. God gave these words according to plan and we are to believe that the events occurred exactly as written, and in the stated number of days.

If the first words of the Bible are not to be taken literally, we then become prone to interpret the remaining chapters and books according to our current whim. Without a definitive creation of man, made in God's image and to rule over a Creation that He declared to be "good", there is no need to consider the "Fall" that occurs in chapter 3. There is also no need to describe a spiritual separation from God and a physical death; no need to believe in the righteous judgment executed by a world-wide Flood; no need for redemption; and no need to hope for anything beyond this life.

The expression "blind faith" often expresses a negative connotation. The walk of the believer, however, begins with faith and finds assurance that God's word is factual in every way. As He is described in Colossians 1:15-17 as the Creator of all things, further study will reveal that an objective review of the laws of science provides no support for the formation of the universe or the origin of life by naturalism.

The above statements may seem unnecessary to those who believe the Bible cover-to-cover. It becomes important, however, to be be able to defend the Creation account against evolution with both scripture and the principles of science in order to confront what the younger generations believe as being "factual." Based on the polling data presented by Gallup, it may be that many more-seasoned Christians need to understand that the Creation/Evolution controversy cannot be ignored.

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, 4 and that life was the light of all mankind. John 1:3-4 NIV
